Line Edit

A line edit is also commonly referred to as a stylistic edit.

In a line edit, I'll look at phrasing, word choice, sentence structure, major inconsistencies, tense switches and any challenges in maintaining voice and so on. This editing costs more because it requires more time during the editing process.

I'll look at things such as:

  • Structure, clarity and conciseness including passive voice

  • Word choice including repetition and precision

  • Consistency of tone

  • Naturalness of dialogue

  • Redundancies and tautologies

  • Use of cliches and idioms

What do you get?

For this service, I'll read your manuscript and create a document with a collection of tracked changes. These tracked changes explain what I would consider changing and what I would replace the word choice with. You will have the power to control these changes and do not have to make them if you disagree.

I will then provide you with an editorial letter will then help to guide you through revisions and explore how aspects of your writing can be improved. The key focus is to improve the style and tighten the work, line by line.

The editorial letter starts at ten pages and is often much more. I'll break down the different elements of the novel and explore how you might edit and improve the work. All recommendations will be specifically tailored to your manuscript. If you have any particular questions or concerns, these will be addressed in the letter.

After you have received and reviewed the comments and letter, we can arrange a call to discuss your thoughts and explore any revisions you wish to make to the novel, a process I can support you through.
