Frequently Asked Questions
What types of editing services do you offer?
I offer a range of editing services tailored to your manuscript's needs, including:
-
Story Feedback: Rather than an edit, this is a service for developed feedback on your story. You’ll gain insights into what’s working in your manuscript and where it can strengthen.
-
Story & Structure/Developmental Edit: Focuses on the structure, content, and overall narrative, providing feedback on plot, character development, pacing, and thematic elements.
-
Stylistic/Line Editing: Focuses on sentence structure, clarity, style, tone, and flow. This makes sure your writing is clear, engaging, and polished.
-
Short Story Edit: All of the above but for one contained short story.

How do I know which type of editing I need?
If you’re unsure which service best suits your manuscript, don’t worry! I can assess a sample of your work and provide a recommendation based on its current stage. Typically:
-
If you’re still refining your plot or characters, developmental editing is your best option.
-
If the content is solid, but the writing could use refinement, line editing is best.
-
For a final polish before publication, copy editing or story feedback will ensure your manuscript is error-free and professionally formatted.

How long does the editing process take?
The timeline depends on the length of your manuscript and the type of editing needed. Here's a general estimate:
-
Developmental editing: 2-4 weeks
-
Stylistic or line editing: 1-3 weeks
-
Story Feedback: 1-2 weeks
-
Short Story: 1 week
I'll be able to update you on the process for your novel depending on the length and complexity, and provide you updates where needed.

What genres do you edit?
I edit primarily fiction, though I am open to editing non-fiction texts if I am comfortable that I have enough knowledge of the subject area.
I have experience of editing literary fiction, science-fiction, romance, horror, thrillers, crime and other genres.

What will my manuscript look like after editing?
Your manuscript will be returned to you with detailed edits and comments using Track Changes in Google Docs or another preferred software. This will allow you to see every change I suggest and make your own decisions on final edits. You do not have to approve any changes that you don't wish to!
All edits come with a summary document of our suggestions, insights, and any additional advice for improvements.

Is this service for American or British English?
Either! I've written for both American and British publications and am very comfortable working with the colloquialisms of both. I've also edited for both American and British writers. As long as I'm clear in advance which you have written in, the editing is of no issue.

Do you edit non-native English authors?
Yes! I have experience working with non-native English speakers and helping them refine their manuscripts to meet professional standards while maintaining their unique voice and style.

How much do your editing services cost?
For all the information on prices, check the 'services' page for the edit that fits you best.

Do you offer sample edits?
Yes! I offer a free sample edit of 1000 words so you can see my editing style and ensure it aligns with your expectations before committing to a full manuscript edit. A full edit can be costly, and you need to be sure that you're working with the right person.
Doing also gives me a chance to recommend the most appropriate editing service for your work.

Do you sign non-disclosure agreements?
Absolutely! I totally respect the privacy of your work and can sign an NDA if requested. Your manuscript will remain confidential.

Can you help with publishing or formatting my book?
While my main focus is on editing, I can provide advice and resources for self-publishing options, fnding agents, book formatting, and even connect you with trusted professionals for cover design, formatting, and more.

Do you offer rush editing services?
Yes, I do offer rush services for an additional fee. The availability of this option depends on the current workload and the scope of your project. You will need to mention this when you first get in touch with me about editing.

How do I pay for your services?
I accept payments through various secure methods, including credit/debit cards, PayPal, and direct bank transfers. Once we agree on the scope of work, we require a deposit before starting the project, with the balance due upon completion.

What if I’m not satisfied with the edits?
My goal is to ensure your manuscript reaches its full potential. If you’re not satisfied with any aspect of the editing, you are always welcome to share your questions and concerns with me. I can work with you to address any issues and make revisions to ensure you’re happy with the final version.
Can you help me write my book?
While I specialise in editing, I do offer ghostwriting services for authors who need assistance in writing or completing their manuscript. If you’re stuck or need help shaping your ideas into a finished product, feel free to reach out, and we can discuss options for how to move forward.
